Here a short profile of the Joes/V4/V4Net/V5 project, quickly answering the questions: What? How? Who?

What?

Joes/V4/V4Net/V5 is a free open source Order Management System for small to medium companies. You can process orders with it. Means: input order, print delivery note, print invoice and have it booked. If the invoice is not payed in time, print the reminder. Manage articles, depots, customer addresses, salesrepresentants, and more what belongs to the buisiness process.

So Joes/V4/V4Net/V5 is useful for everybody who is printing invoices, address labels and reminders. Joes/V4/V4Net/V5 is a flexible and fully controllable system. Well, it cannot yet grant you blind flights -- at some points you will have to think for yourself. But remember: it is open, and thus ready to have your specific individual automation features attached.

The somewhat confusing designation Joes/V4/V4Net/V5 does mean the following:

Joes - The name for the new full collection of modules comprising the old V4 and the new V4Net.
V4 - The still active but outdated core engine, written in Paradox. It is scheduled to be disposed around end of 2009.
V4Net - The modern web interface based on the .NET framework, built in C# on top of V4. It already contains some engine functionality, which finally will replace the outdated V4 completely.
V5 - The same as Joes. For users and programmers, who know V4 since long, V5 of course is the intuitive designation for a successor of V4.

How?

The main project is done in Visual Studio with C# as the main programming language and a little bit C++; for special tasks. The legacy engine V4 is made in Paradox with it's progamming language ObjectPAL. Furthermore you find sequences written in the SQL database programming language. There are also a few files in VBA, e.g. for Outlook which is creating textfiles from emails to be imported into V4. . Eventually you will find some modules written in Python. All this sourcecodes then are stored in Subversion repositories.

Who?

Developers: We are a team of about 2.5 developers, located in South Germany.

The users of Joes/V4/V4Net/V5 are so far:

A publishing house for selling books
A touristic enterprise, brokering holliday appartments.
Trilo Software e.K. herself of course, for writing invoices, for bookkeeping and for peripheral tasks, e.g. generating bilingual websites.
N. for private purposes, mainly address management.
